Wow! It is the twelfth week of your pregnancy. Now you are about the end of the first trimester. This means that the morning sickness and other symptoms of early pregnancy are subsiding.
Some things you need to check! Have you broken the news of your pregnancy to your friends and family? If not this may be the right time! Have you planned for leave of absence from work? You may need to get your colleagues to start involving themselves in your particular sphere of work so that when you go on leave there are no issues with the management. Remember maternity leave is your right and no one does any favors to you for granting the same.
You’re Baby in Week twelve
Your baby has increased in size in the last three weeks. It is nearly three inches long now. This is about the size of a small plum. It is a little more proportionate now. Instead of the head being half the size of the whole, it is now only one third the size of the whole. The baby is starting to move a little and may be able to flex its fingers and toes and even jerk its arms and legs. It is still too small for you to feel any movement.
Overall development of the baby continues at a rapid pace. The facial features are getting more shape with nose, eyes and ears nearly fully formed. Blood is being circulated through the umbilical cord which carries nutrients and oxygen from the placenta. The kidneys are beginning to excrete urine.
It is possible for the mother to hear the baby’s heartbeat now. This is only possible by using a Doppler instrument which is moved over the belly. You can look forward to this in your prenatal visit to your doctor.
