Baby Growth Week 23

By: | Tags: , , | Comments: 0 | February 13th, 2018

In week 23 your baby is just short of a foot long and weighs one pound which is just short of half a kilogram.  It is able to distinguish sounds now

The baby’s skin is loose and saggy.  This is so as the skin grows faster than the fat that is supposed to fill it out.  In the next four weeks, the baby will nearly double in weight as the fat builds up.  However, do not worry you will fortunately not double in weight.

Once this happens the skin will become less translucent as at the moment all the organs and bones are visible through the skin.

Your baby is also getting sensitive to noise and is getting accustomed to various sounds around you.  You should be able to feel its movements now.  If not it would be better to discuss this with your doctor.

Your Baby in Week Twenty-three

In week 23 your baby is just short of a foot long and weighs one pound which is just short of half a kilogram.  It is able to distinguish sounds now.  All its organs are growing proportionately.  The pancreas are now capable of producing insulin and on exposure to high sugar level in your body makes more insulin as required.  The brain has now four skull plates but these are not fused together.  This is to allow the brain to grow and it will continue growing three times this size in the first year of life.

It is possible for the sonographer to determine the baby’s gender in this week.  However this will depend on the position the baby takes during the ultrasound.  In India it is illegal to determine the baby’s gender before birth.

Your baby’s gender was determined when the egg and the sperm came together during fertilization.  The mother’s egg is always X chromosome while the father’s sperms can be either an X or a Y chromosome. An XX combination means a girl while a XY combination means a boy.  (Hence boy or girl it is the man whose contribution is the decider).
